PSYCHED UP JANIS I Died In My Teens (This Way Up)

The second single from terribly-named Scandinavians Psyched Up Janis, "I Died In My Teens" is a frankly stunning combination of Pavement’s weirdness tempered by layer upon layer of Teenage Fanclub’s guitars; three minutes of top quality old-fashioned indie thrills (plus what sounds like the bizarre line "How about it Kev?"). Of the other two tracks "Shoot The Breeze" sounds a bit like a ham-fisted Sonic Youth, but "Dense High" is an off-kilter, if overlong, half-jangly half-grunge delight, a bit like Pavement (again!) attacking an early Orange Juice b-side. Darn good.
