MOBY GRAPE Moby Grape (Columbia)

An American vinyl reissue of this San Franciscan band’s acclaimed 1967 debut album, scuppered at the time by excess hype. (Columbia released five singles from the album on the same day - wait until the BPI find out about that, they’ll have to legislate!) To my ears this hasn’t worn nearly as well as works by Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead from around the same place and time; there’s only so much fuzzed-up acid guitar that those of us born after Woodstock can take in one sitting! Something of a disappointment.
