FRANKIE KNUCKLES FEATURING JAMIE PRINCIPAL Your Love/SLEAZY D I’ve Lost Control (Trax)

Part of last year’s reissue program from the feted Chicago dance music label Trax, I could hardly leave this 10" single sitting forlornly in the Virgin Megastore’s sale rack, could I, especially at a paltry 99p. Both sides are long-time house classics, "Your Love" being a sweet thing full of cathedral-size reverb and arcing synth lines, whilst "I’ve Lost Control" is 12 minutes of crude drum machine and scary psychosis as someone (possibly Mr D himself) enunciates the title with decreasing surety between peals of devilish laughter. Not remotely like the Prodigy, and naturally much better for it.
